Your home’s kitchen is a place where you probably spend a lot of time… cooking meals, enjoying takeout, conversing with friends and family over a bottle or wine. The kitchen is a universal spot where people come together to enjoy good food and drinks. So having a kitchen where the atmosphere is welcoming and the aesthetics are pleasing is important to most people. But entirely renovating a kitchen can become costly quickly, and it may not be within your budget to completely gut and redo the space. There are ways to upgrade a kitchen on a budget, however, and here’s how you do it.
Switch out or paint your current hardware. One of the easiest ways to make a simple improvement that makes all the difference is updating the hardware on the shelves and cabinets. You can easily take of the handles and brackets and paint them a new color, and the easiest way to do this is with metallic spray paint. That is by far the most cost effective way to make the change, but you can also buy new hardware altogether. Depending on how many pieces you need, this can also be a cheap update to make your kitchen feel more modern and up-to-date. Just be sure to measure your current hardware so that your new hardware properly fits!
Add an overhead pot rack. Installing an overhead rack for your pots and pans not only acts as an effective use of storage, but also gives your kitchen a retro vibe and takes barely any effort. Having all of your pots and pans at an arm’s reach will make your cooking experience easier as well.
Brighten up your cabinet color. Hiring someone to paint your kitchen cabinets can become a costly ordeal, but if you are willing to take on the project yourself it will cost next to nothing (just the cost of paint). It is as easy as choosing a color, taking the cabinet door off the hinges, and slapping on a couple of coats of paint. It can be tedious work and become quite time consuming, but the final product is definitely worth it. A new cabinet color will completely transform the space and brighten it up. Consider painting the kitchen island – also known as the workhorse – a different color from the rest of the cabinets.
Install a funky backsplash. This is another simple way to brighten your kitchen up and bring your unique style to the space. You can choose from a huge variety of backsplashes, ranging from bright and funky to muted and modern. Check out what home improvement stores in your area have to offer; you’ll find tons of options in stores like Home Depot and Lowes.
Choose a theme and go all out. You might not think that your kitchen space needs a theme, but many people choose to decorate and renovate their kitchens following a specific theme or style. Consider choosing a farmhouse theme with a modern twist, or a more retro theme with quirky accessories and accents.
